Trip Overview

Manaslu, standing eighth out of ten in the world-class Himalayas, is an enticing adventure for trekkers seeking an isolated route. The journey to Manaslu is a wanderlust, and the path is trodden by few, making it secluded. However, the taste of trekking in this region is majestically regal, and we invite you to join us. Our long professional experience in the Nepal Himalayas will assure you of the service we provide and help you achieve your goals.

Let’s follow the gully of Manang, where colourful prayer flags flutter in the pristine valley, leading trekkers to a beautiful valley. These valleys are known for the tapestry of Hindu and Buddhist culture, which unfurls some attentive monasteries and Gumbas, as well as panoramic villages in the Manang region. The main dwellers of these villages are Sherpa, Gurung, and Bhutia.

The route and path to Manaslu were opened to trekkers in 1991 for the first time. Due to this recent opening, the natural beauty and atmosphere of the vicinity, along with the tradition and culture of the people who have lived there for a long time, remain unspoiled. Located around 64 km from Mt Annapurna and its ranges, Mt Manaslu invites trekkers and expeditions.

The journey goes along the ancient salt-trading route, where the outstanding vista of Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himalayan ranges, and Manaslu become an adoring piece of art. Join us as we lead you to the right spot at the right season, allowing you to enjoy the natural art made by the sky-high-standing Himalayan ranges.

Highlights of the trip include

  • Enjoying the charm of the Manaslu valley.
  • Experiencing a spiritual connection with the eighth-highest mountain in the world.
  • Visiting UNESCO world heritage sites like Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath Stupa. Swayambhunath temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
  • Witnessing the incredibly charming landscape, from the foothills of the Himalayas to its alpine atmosphere. This includes the beautiful rivers and suspension bridges, sometimes offering a picturesque view of waterfalls. The chirping of birds adds to the ambience, and the glaciers on the foothills of the world-class Himalayas are an ecstasy of the trip.
  • Seeing the view of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Sringi ranges.
  • Visiting the home of more than 200 bird species and 2000 species of flora. The region provides warm shelter to endangered animals like blue sheep, Musk Deer, serow, snow partridges, golden eagles, and others.
  • Experiencing an off-the-beaten-path trekking adventure.

Route Overview

Upon your arrival at the Kathmandu International Airport, a representative from Aaozora Travel & Tour will assist you in finding your way to your hotel in Kathmandu. The next day, you will embark on a historic sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Durbar Square, as well as other revered tours of the Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa – all of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Once the world heritage sightseeing tour is over, the 15-day Manaslu Trekking journey begins with a ride from Kathmandu to the trekking beginning point at Machha Khola. The roads on which the car/bus runs can be comfortable and pleasant but bumpy when dirt-laden. As you head towards your destination, you will cross through forests, rivers, creeks, and villages made of stone houses.
Chortens and mani wheels (prayer wheels) that connect one village to another in this Himalayan diaspora are particularly special. As you ascend through the rhododendron forest, you will come across Lho Gaun, Samagaon, and Manaslu Basecamp (4750m).
Continuing your trekking journey, you will reach Samdo and Dharmasala, which offer the most appreciative views. Splendid vistas and an awe-inspiring view of Himlung Himal (7126m) and Gygi Kung, Kang Koru, Annapurna, and Cheo Himal (6820m) await you at the Larkya La Mountain Pass.
After continuing your trekking journey to Bhimtang and Tilije, the journey’s hiking portion ends. You will then be driven back to Kathmandu.

Best Time for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The best time for trekking the Manaslu Circuit is during March, April, and May, before the summer and monsoon season, which usually begins in June. During the fall of spring after winter, there is a gradual increase in atmospheric temperature, making the season pleasant. As a result, the ice and snow in the Himalayan area begin to thaw, which is a natural phenomenon that provides new life to plants and greenery from the melted ice. The dried and shaken forests and greenery revive with the rise of temperature and water flow, making the surroundings beautiful.
During this time, the snow-covered path to the destination is visible, and there are no chances of getting lost in the cold-craggy mountains. The peaks and mountains are now clearly visible, and the day becomes warm. Animals and birds can be seen on the trail to the goal as they are relieved of the harsh winter season. People who had hibernated due to the extreme cold are now back to their businesses, making it easier for trekkers to find accommodation and food throughout the trekking duration.
If you cannot trek during these three months, don’t worry. September, October, and November are excellent months to travel the Manaslu Circuit. These months fall in the autumn season, just before winter sets in. Once the monsoon ends, usually in mid-August, the September-October season starts. The daytime temperature is pleasant, and the greenery around the trail is full of life. Animals come out of their nests for grazing or preying. The chances of snowfalls and avalanches during this season are minimal. Clear views of the mountains can be seen all around, making it the favourite time of the year for trekking.

Is Manaslu trekking easy?

Trekking to the Manaslu circuit involves crossing the Larkya La Pass at an altitude of 5165m, covering a total distance of about 180km. This high Himalayan region trek involves remote distances where there are limited choices of mountain lodges. Regarding altitude, the pass is situated in a remote area, and the trail can be moderately complex.
During the trek, there may be ups and downs that can sometimes lead to altitude sickness, such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, loss of appetite, and exhaustion. These symptoms may appear when one is at a high altitude. To mitigate these problems, sleeping on time, staying hydrated, eating well, and enjoying the scenery is advisable. It is also essential to inform the guide about any health issues.
As the altitude increases, the atmospheric temperature gradually drops, which can cause headaches, tiredness, coughing, and cold. Coping well with these conditions can help make the trek easier. Additionally, the temperature drops significantly at night and rises during the day, requiring more care in managing one’s health.
Despite these challenging conditions, the Manaslu Circuit Trekking is unique and exotic, rewarding outstanding landscapes, culture, and breathtaking mountain views of 360 degrees. To make the trek easy, it is recommended to go to the gym, do physical activities that increase strength/stamina, and walk, run, or jog, which can help in taking in a significant amount of oxygen and increasing stamina.

On some commonly known routes, you can opt for a homestay accommodation option run by nearby ethnic communities. These tea houses offer communal or public toilets for trekkers along the trails, especially in areas of high altitude. However, it is essential to note that these toilets are of the squat pan variety, which may take some getting used to if you are unfamiliar with them. In the lower altitude regions, some tea houses may have attached toilets near your room, which can be considered a luxury. On the other hand, if you are on a camping trek in rural areas without any settlement nearby, you will have to make do with a makeshift toilet. While some tea house owners reside in the tea houses, others generally run them seasonally, heading back to their homes in lower altitude regions during the off-season. In addition to providing lodging and food, tea houses are the ultimate way to meet other trekkers and socialize.

Is this mandatory to hire trekking guide in Nepal Trekking?

Taking a trekking guide in Nepal is now mandatory to look for the safety of trekkers worldwide. Many cases of the loss of trekkers in the Himalayan region have led the government to step in imposing the rule. Many solo trekkers unfamiliar with the different routes in trekking areas might unintentionally be attracted to extraordinary landscapes or scenery, which can lead them astray and cause difficulties in finding the right path back. This is often the cause of getting lost. However, in some cases, getting lost can have more severe consequences and result in adverse victimization. A few cases that the experts analyzed have revealed that illicit (taking no permits and legal documents) action taken in Himalayan activities must have led them to lead to unexpected victimization. Some are estimated to have been victimized by human crime. Going trekking long or short in the Nepal Himalayas is safe with a guide. Navigating the route and giving insight into the culture is not only what guides help you; any of the unforeseen difficult situations that may come during the trekking time in a remote area, a firm decision and action will be taken by the guide. Escorting and protecting the trekker/s from necessary evacuation to sometimes unexpected rubbery incidents, the contribution of the guide becomes numerically higher than what one pays to the guide.

Yes, there are hospitals and clinics located in Jiri, Lukla, Kunde, and Pheriche, which are popular spots along the Everest Highway trekking route. These facilities have been set up to reach assistance to the travellers in this area including altitude sickness. Altitude sickness is a unique condition that can be dangerous if left untreated.

    Clothing and equipment:

When planning a trekking trip in Nepal, it’s important to prioritize your physical and mental health. Choose clothing that is comfortable, flexible, and can adapt to changing weather conditions. Trekking often involves spending nights in lowlands and highlands, so it’s important to prepare for significant temperature changes between day and night. In the Everest region, mornings and evenings are cold while afternoons can be sunny, so pack accordingly. Here are some essential items to bring on your trek: appropriate clothing and equipment, a healthy mindset, and a fit body.

    Trekking season

The ideal trekking season in Nepal is from March to May, and from September to November or mid-December. Although it often rains from June to August, it is still considered a comfortable season for trekking in the Mustang and Dolpo area, which is the far northern remote part of Nepal. In autumn, from September to December, the skies are clear, and the Himalayas are beautiful. From December to February, the weather is bitterly cold, and snow falls at altitudes above 3,000 meters. However, if you are well-prepared, you can fully enjoy your trip. Spring fog begins in March, and the outlook becomes more difficult than we hoped for. Even if it is sunny after May, it is not suitable for trekking due to the rainy season.

    Lodging and meals:

Private rooms are available for sightseeing in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and other towns. However, for short treks and high-altitude Himalayan base camp treks, you will need to stay in a lodge. You’ll be served Nepalese dishes including dal bhat, fried noodles, chowmein, and thukpa (noodles with vegetables), as well as Western foods like French toast, toast, stir-fried vegetables, garlic soup, vegetable soup, omelets, dumplings, pizza, pancakes, and porridge. Additionally, you can also enjoy Tibetan dishes and boiled rice. The availability of menu items like potatoes, French fries, fried dumplings, squirt bread, steak, and more will depend on the price plan.

    Bedroom:

When trekking, you will usually be staying in rooms for two people instead of individual ones. During the busy seasons, you may have to sleep in a dormitory. If you are trekking to Everest or Annapurna between September and December, which is a popular route with fewer people in the group, you may even end up using a sleeping bag and sleeping in an empty dormitory.

The bed will come with a comforter and pillow, but if you tend to feel cold, it’s best to bring your sleeping bag. Make sure to check if you need a thicker sleeping bag depending on the trekking season. In some cases, the toilets may be located outside the lodge, so it’s a good idea to bring a raincoat and a flashlight. Remember to carry a flashlight with you, as the roads can be unfamiliar and dangerous.

    Meal

In addition to Nepalese dal and bhat, there are a variety of dishes available such as porridge, papad, omelets, fried and boiled eggs, boiled potatoes, udon-style (mixed veg with noodle) soup with side dishes, stir-fried vegetables, tarkari (curry) fried noodles-style chowmein (fry noodle), pancakes, French toast, toast, sandwiches, boiled dumplings, meat and vegetable soup, fried rice, sweets, candy, bread, biscuits, snacks, and potato chips.

Recommended portable Japanese flavors for Japanese:

If you have a fondness for Japanese flavors, you can relish the nostalgic tastes of your hometown by carrying portable essentials such as miso soup, furikake, nori, cocoa, soy sauce, and cup ramen. These are highly recommended portable Japanese flavors that you can enjoy anytime, anywhere.

    Recommended drinks:

Black Coffee, Hot Coffee, Milk Coffee, Milk tea, Hot Lemon, Hot Water, Mineral Water, Hot Chocolate, Garlic Soup, Corn Soup, Canned Bill, Cola, Hard Drink Garlic Soup, Hot Lemon, Hot Water, Milk Tea, hot chocolate, etc.

    Note

The Thamel district, a popular tourist area, has seen an increase in the number of children and adults begging on the streets. However, giving them money may not be the best way to help them, as it could hinder their development and perpetuate the idea that society bears the burden. Instead, it’s important to avoid such behavior and if you feel compelled to help, offer them food that is ready to eat, like pieces of bread or biscuits. This would prevent them from selling it for money. It’s also a good idea to educate these children about their social responsibilities.
